I know I’ve asked a lot of the Tumblr community. It seems I have some new art request or survey or something at least once a week. But the artistic brilliance of you fantastic people is absolutely limitless, while mine leaves me struggling to draw a symmetrical stick figure.
So I fall to my knees, humbled before your magnificence, and seek your aid. I’ve started a new D&D campaign and written about eight pages of backstory for this character, but my poor little cleric is depressingly lacking in visual representation. I’d really love it if someone had the spare time and energy to draw her for me. If you’re feeling particularly charitable, you could even draw my entire adventuring party! I’m sure my friends would be excited beyond words. I’ll even include references, because I don’t expect everyone to just know what each D&D race looks like.
This post will be quite long (detailed descriptions of six characters, after all), so in order to avoid flooding your dash with a massive wall of text, I’ve included a break. Please read on if you’re interested.
I did a Gallifreyan request for you a while back, and you said that you’d draw something for me in return. I told you that I don’t have a request at the moment, but I’d be sure to take you up on it eventually. In my complete and utter lack of foresight, I didn’t take note of your name. If you follow me and happen to see this, would you kindly send me a message? I thought of something I’d love to have drawn.
Actually, if anyone is bored and in the mood to take requests, I’d love to have a message from you too. It’s Game of Thrones related, a bit complicated, and not X-rated. And all of that rhymed. That was cool.
Let me know :D
You’ve created something brilliant. It might not be your best work, but it’s definitely in the top three and man are you proud of it. You showed all of your friends, posted it all over the internet, or framed it on your bedroom wall. This particular piece has sentimental value, a deeper meaning than just “I wanted to make something pretty”, which is part of why you love it so much. Maybe it’s a portrait of a certain someone, or a poem about a close friend, or fanart of one of your favorite characters.
After a while, you go back to creating other things. You don’t forget about this piece, it just moves to the back of your mind as you continue with your art form.
Then something happens.
Perhaps things didn’t work with your significant other, or you had a falling-out with one of your best friends, or that favorite character was tragically killed off. You eventually get past it and time slowly wanes those painful feelings away…until you’re at some point reminded of that one particular piece of art you created a long time ago. You stumble upon it online, someone mentions it, you find it buried in your closet.
Suddenly you’re tearing up as you stare at it. Though you still acknowledge that it’s a fine work, it’s different now. The sentimentality changes. What used to bring up warm, fond memories now only serves to remind you of that broken part of your life. Its beauty has transformed from something of wonder into a tragedy. It’s not fair. This work is tainted forever, and there’s nothing you can do about it.
Boy I sure wish I could draw, or even that I had a close friend who drew very well that wasn’t incredibly busy. I have an idea for tattoos that I want but no one to materialize them for me. I want faeries of the four elements. I have their descriptions all written out and I can see them in my head, but I don’t trust a tattoo artist to have the same vision I do. I want to be able to bring in a picture and have them copy it.
Anyone out there who can draw and would be willing to do a free request piece? I’ll repay you with my eternal gratitude and I’ll put your signature on the tattoos :D
